Basement Finishing in the Kansas City Metro

The cheapest square footage you'll ever add is already under your feet — finished right, it becomes the room everyone fights over.

Est. 2020 · Harrisonville, Missouri · Serving the Kansas City Metro

An unfinished basement is stored potential: a family room, a guest suite, a home theater, a bar for game day. We turn that concrete box into the most-used floor in the house.

JD Build approaches basements design-build, the same way we approach every floor of the home. We plan the layout around how you'll actually use the space — where the TV wall goes, whether a bathroom or wet bar earns its plumbing run, how to keep ceilings feeling tall and light. Then our crew does the building: framing, drywall, flooring, trim, doors, and the finish details that make a basement feel like it was always part of the house instead of an afterthought.

We handle the unglamorous parts too — permits, egress requirements for bedrooms, and an honest moisture evaluation before any finishes go in. Based in Harrisonville, we finish basements across Cass County and the Kansas City metro, including Belton, Raymore, Lee's Summit, and Grandview.

What Does Finishing a Basement Cost?

Square footage sets the floor — what you put in the space sets the number.

A straightforward family room is a different investment than a basement with a full bathroom, wet bar, and guest bedroom with egress. After your free consultation you'll get a detailed, line-item proposal — no vague allowances, no surprises.

We're rarely the lowest bid — we are the one you won't have to call back.

Common Questions

Basement Finishing FAQs

What drives the cost of finishing a basement?

Square footage is the starting point, but the big swings come from what goes into the space: adding a bathroom or wet bar means plumbing, a bedroom means an egress window, and finishes like custom trim or tile move the number more than framing and drywall do. We'll scope it honestly in a free consultation and give you a line-item proposal so you can see exactly where the investment goes.

Do I need permits or an egress window to finish my basement?

In most Kansas City metro municipalities, finishing a basement requires permits, and any room used as a bedroom needs a code-compliant egress window for safe exit. Requirements vary by city — Harrisonville, Belton, Lee's Summit, and Raymore each have their own processes — and we handle the permitting legwork as part of the project so it's done right and inspected.

What about moisture — can my basement actually be finished?

Most can, but moisture has to be addressed before finishes go in — not after. We evaluate drainage, walls, and any signs of water intrusion during the consultation, and we'll tell you straight if something needs to be corrected first. Building over a moisture problem is how basements end up with mold and ruined finishes, and we don't do it.

"Dylan, Jesse, and Brayden did a phenomenal job... The work was clean, precise, and efficient. This is the second time we've hired them and we will surely be hiring them again for any home improvement projects!"
